trans-Zeatin is generally considered to be the most potent of all of the cytokinins. It is also adenine-based, (2E)-2-methyl-4-(1H-purin-6-ylamino)-2-buten-1-ol, 6-(4-Hydroxy-3-methylbut-2-enylamino)purine. trans-Zeatin is a naturally occurring cytokinin in plant tissue culture that stimulates cell division and enhances shoot formation. It promotes robust regeneration, delays senescence, and supports healthy organogenesis, making it essential for effective plant propagation.
Application
trans-Zeatin has been used:
- as a media supplement for the isolation and culture of pretransitional and transitional embryos
- as a culture media supplement for incubating alginate strip culture
- as a growth regulator in modified basal Murashige and Skoog medium
